  • leaves deciduous, alternate, pinnately compound
  • buds alternate, large, woolly, imbricate, pointed
  • flowers white, in flat clusters, May
  • fruit orange-red pome, in clusters, in Fall, persistent
  • bark smooth, gray, with horizontal lenticels, rough with age
  • habit is a medium tree, often branching low (20'-40')
  • form upright, with rounded canopy
