- leaves small, elliptic, semi-evergreen
- leaves deep green, alternate, smooth-edged
- buds small, alternate
- stems gray, smooth
- stems arch over gently, grow laterally
- main stems have small branches arranged in flat plane, like a fish
bone or ribs on a spine
- fruit bright red, held close to stem
- flowers small, white/pink, in spring
- form low (2-3') and spreading
