  • leaves small, elliptic, semi-evergreen
  • leaves deep green, alternate, smooth-edged
  • buds small, alternate
  • stems gray, smooth
  • stems arch over gently, grow laterally
  • main stems have small branches arranged in flat plane, like a fish bone or ribs on a spine
  • fruit bright red, held close to stem
  • flowers small, white/pink, in spring
  • form low (2-3') and spreading
