Located on south side of Swan Lake (small pond) by new chemistry
building.
- leaves deciduous, alternate, oblong, pointed tip
- leaves dark green in summer, no fall color
- leaves thin, with fine serrations on edge
- buds alternate, globular, brown, imbricate
- stems smooth and greenish-brown when young
- bark very dark colored on old stems
- flowers small, white, in spring
- fruit bright red, profuse, berry-like, color up in late summer and
persist into winter
- fruit appear only on female clones
- habit multi-stemmed large shrub, often suckering
- habit twiggy and dense; may be tree-like with age (6'-10' tall)
