Located on south side of Swan Lake (small pond) by new chemistry building.

  • leaves deciduous, alternate, oblong, pointed tip
  • leaves dark green in summer, no fall color
  • leaves thin, with fine serrations on edge
  • buds alternate, globular, brown, imbricate
  • stems smooth and greenish-brown when young
  • bark very dark colored on old stems
  • flowers small, white, in spring
  • fruit bright red, profuse, berry-like, color up in late summer and persist into winter
  • fruit appear only on female clones
  • habit multi-stemmed large shrub, often suckering
  • habit twiggy and dense; may be tree-like with age (6'-10' tall)
