The University of Rhode Island has
developed a campus plant walk that showcases the 140 species of
evergreen and deciduous trees. URI occupies the site of a barren, rocky
pasture that was a part of the Oliver Watson-Tefft farm, purchased in
1888. Today the campus is not only endowed with lovely native shade
trees, but also with many exotic and ornamental landscape plants. This
walk identifies many botanically interesting and historically
significant trees on URI Kingston campus. The walk was designed by Dr.
Susan Hammem-Winn (retired) of the URI Department of Biological Sciences
with help from David Bascom, Sue Gordon, Chris Nerone, and Bob Hindle.
This website is sponsored by the University of Connecticut with the aid
of a USDA grant.
