| Deer browsing is a major problem facing the successful cultivation of ornamental plants in many locales. As such, there exists an acute need to identify and cultivate species which deer find unpalatable. Plants classified as deer resistant exhibit varying degrees of resistance. Depending on deer population levels, the harshness of winter, availability of alternate food sources and many other factors, even plants classified as "deer resistant" may suffer moderate to severe browsing. There are no plants that are absolutely deer resistant, and horticultural experts rarely agree about the degree of deer resistance that any given plant possesses. The plant selector notes plant species reported to possess some relative measure of deer resistance. |
